Calmel & Joseph Terrasses du Larzac                        2016               Waitrose       £10.49 (£13.99)

Calmel & Joseph make a huge range of wines divided between those made from particular Languedoc terroirs and local grape varieties and modern Pays d'Oc, such as the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under the Villa Blanche label. This mouthfilling but polished Larzac is one of the former. It's a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre with a little Carignan and Cinsault and is packed with flavour – sweet, smoky, gamey, stony notes, wild hedgerow berries, garriguey herbs, spices, cocoa and tangerine freshness.
