Shillington - Bedfordshire

Thursday 21st September

Todays ride was a short one to Shillington. Nine of us set off from Wetherspoons, Jacky, Jeff, a new rider with us, David R, Frank C, David W, Sandra, Peter, myself and Geoff. We took our normal route out through Ickleford, Holwell and Pirton and as we were making good time Geoff took us on an extra loop in the Shillington area. David R, left us on arrival at The Musgrave Arms to keep his mileage up. We were joined at lunch by John and Bedford Paul. We had an enjoyable extended lunch with plenty of group chat going on. The chips are excellent at this venue, the sandwiches and soup were not bad either. Afterwards John and Bedford Paul went on their way as did Geoff and Peter who had cycled from their homes in Luton. The rest of us cycled home along the reverse route of our outward journey. Jacky left us at Holwell, but just before that Jeff's chain broke and there wasn't a spare link to be found. Fortunately Franks wife Maggie was able to come to the rescue, she came over in her car and took Jeff and his bike home. The weather was lightly overcast with a strong south wind which hindered us on our way back. My mileage was just over 22 at an average of 12.
