Tuesday, 27 June 2017 - 7:15pm

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 27 June, 7.15pm, followed by a meeting on Tuesday 18 July, 7.15pm (note 18th not 8th as in the April Newsletter). Both are in the Brunt Room at the Settlement, Nevells Road, Letchworth, SG6 4UB. £3 LALG members, £4 non-members.

This pair of meetings is something of a special project. The story of Manon Lescaut has been used in two superb operas that are in the present repertoire; Massenet's Manon, Puccini's Manon Lescaut, and in Kenneth MacMillan's wonderful ballet, Manon. Over the two meetings we will watch various scenes from these works in order to see how each depicts the story, as well as the character of Manon herself. As mentioned, the two meetings form a pair so do try to keep both dates clear; however, even if you can attend one, but not the other, I'm confident you will find the meeting you can attend both enjoyable and interesting. To whet your appetite further regarding these two meetings, the singers will be Plácido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa, Thomas Allen, Renée Fleming, Marcello Álvarez, and the dancers Tamara Rojo and Carlos Acosta (not live of course, but on the DVDs). The evenings will be a treat whether your preference is opera or ballet; don’t miss!
