Stoke-on-Trent Trip Wednesday 6 July

Stoke-on-Trent is the home of the pottery industry in England and is officially recognised as the World Capital of Ceramics.

Our first visit will be to the Etruria Industrial Museum, home to Jesse Shirley’s 1857 Bone and Flint Mill, the only remaining steam powered potters mill in the world and driven by an 1820s beam engine. It is located at the junction of the Trent and Mersey and Caldon canals with a forge, canal warehouse, and locks on the site. Here we will have coffee/tea and biscuits, followed by a guided tour of the mill.

The coach will then take us to the city centre where you will have free time for lunch, maybe visit the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, or the Dudson Museum housed in an atmospheric original Grade II listed bottle oven or visit the shopping centre.

There will also be an optional visit to the Wedgwood and Royal Doulton Outlet Store where you will find their major brands including Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Waterford and Royal Albert, with reductions of up to 75% off retail prices.

The cost will be a total of £20 LALG members, £22 non-members.

The coach will leave Baldock outside Templars Restaurant (formerly Zeus) at 8.15am and Letchworth opposite Barclays bank at 8.30am.

To book, please ring Maureen Strutt on 01767 318117 or 07971 172430 or email All cheques to be made out to History 3.
