Penshurst & Hever

Wednesday, 22 June 2016 - 8:00am

Wednesday 22 June. In The Footsteps of The Tudors.

A visit to Penshurst Place and Hever Castle. Both of these houses have strong connections with Henry VIII, Penshust Place having been at one time his hunting lodge while Hever Castle was the family home of Anne Boleyn and later of Anne of Cleves following her divorce from Henry.

We shall have a guided tour of Penshurst Place before the house is open to the public, with further time to enjoy the gardens before taking the short drive to Hever Castle. The Penshurst gardens are particularly noted for their peonies and roses and should be at their best at this time of year.

We shall explore Hever free flow, although a limited number of audio guides of the house are available. These need to be pre-booked. Again, there are extensive gardens of considerable interest.

There are several catering options at both properties, and there are designated picnic areas if that is your preference.

The cost of this trip including the coach and entrance charges at both properties will be £36.00 per person (£37.00 if non-LALG). The coach will leave Letchworth, opposite Barclays Bank, at 8.00am and Baldock, by Templars Restaurant at 8.15am. Depending on traffic we should be back between 7.00pm and 7.30pm.

To book your place, ring Ron Verran on 01462 486272 after 9.00am on 20 May.

We are still in need of volunteers to join the committee and help organise outings. This can be a lot of fun so please don’t feel daunted as friendly support will be given. If you have an idea for an outing and would like to discuss this further please phone Kay Nethersole on 01462 490313 or Susan Mellor on 01462 456486.
