April 2014 Meeting - A blast from the Past

For our April meeting Jas chose the theme “A Blast from the Past“ that took us on an enjoyable trip down memory lane...

He managed to secure a selection of those infamous(!) wines many of us grew with including a Blue Nun,  Mateus Rose and a Piesporter.

The Wines

  • Sainsbury's Piesporter Michelberg - A typically fruity German wine, with crisp citrus and apple flavours balanced with a delicate sweetness.
  • Blue Nun 2013 made from Rivaner & Riesling grapes - An any occasion wine, which has a butiful balance, softness and depth of soft fruit flavours.
  • Ruppertsberger 2012 made from Riesling grapes - Picked a t aperfect ripeness this wine shows  loverly fragrant fruit and flavour. Perfect with Fish Curry, Fish Terrine & Roast Pork.
  • Mateus  Rose "The Original" made from Baga, Rufete, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca grapes - Primarily from Portugal's premium Douro and Bairrada DOC regions. Slightly sparkling, light bodied wine, fruity aroma, subtle sweetness.
  • Chateau Saint Eulalie, Minervois made from 30% Syrah, 40% Carighan, 30% Grenache noir grapes - Rich almost lucious red with lots of charm. There is Oak bit it is finely judged and only adds to the complexity and polich of this lovely Languedoc red. Perfect with Steak, Sausages & Mushroom Linguine.
  • Massif d'Uchaux, Cote Du Rhone Villages 2013 made with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre & Carignan grapes - A Clasic Rhone wine; loverly soft summer fruit aromas, well structured and with gererous ripe fruit flavours, balanced by a long lingering finish with hints of pepper and spice. Perfect with all red meats and richly flavoured foods.
