February 2012 report

A very cold February evening did not deter a large majority of the group turning out to sample “The Italian Job”.
John and Barbara Raines had laid out our meeting room with a range of Italian cheeses, hams and olives with Sicilian tomatoes spread out to add some colour. Rob Hailstone had baked several beautifully fresh Ciabatta loaves to accompany the other food, so all was set for an Italian supper.
John had chosen nine Italian wines to help wash down the food. He started the meeting with a fresh sparkling Prosecco, followed by a Fiano from Sicily and a Gavi from Piemonte. Six typical Italian red wines followed such as Barolo, Primitivo, Montepulciano and others.
Overall, another unique variation on our wine tasting themes.
