Letchworth Garden City Society
The Letchworth Garden City Society was founded in 1978.
It is for everyone interested in the town - its buildings, architecture, Amenities and social history - as well as the principles on which it was founded. For our latest activities, see the current LALG Newsletter, our website at: http://www.lgcs.org.uk/, or get in touch with our Group Contact, Allan
In addition to promoting interest in the Garden City and the Arts & Crafts Movement from which it was conceived, the Society is active in local conservation to ensure that Letchworth's unique character and appearance is protected and preserved, and that any new developments are in keeping with this environment.
For over 30 years the Letchworth Garden City Society has been active in Letchworth on matters such as conservation, local history and the history of town planning and the Arts and Crafts movement. In addition to promoting talks on those subjects and trips to relevant destinations, the Society is represented on various local bodies and its views are sought by the planning and conservation departments of both NHDC and LGCHF. Our nominees have served as Governors of the Heritage Foundation since it was formed.
We need to keep recruiting members so that we can be representative of Letchworth opinion when we are consulted. The subscription is only £5 p.a. and as well as meetings we have a quarterly Journal, which includes articles on historic matters as well as news and reports of our current activities.
