Firkin Club

This group meets on a Tuesday every other month to sample real ales and enjoy good company and conversation.

New Members Welcome!

An appreciation of fine English beer and its part in the equally fine tradition of bar debate are the foundations of the Firkin Club. Members sharing these traits meet every eight weeks to put world affairs into a personal perspective, viewed through their pint glass.

Meetings are held at the Three Horseshoes, Willian where new landlords Deborah & Scott, are making the pub a destination for really good real ale. There are always 5 real ales to choose from including some well beyond the usual Greene King range.

New members are welcome to join us at the next meeting to help with a subjective tasting of the latest ales.

Group reports

At our June meeting, the favourite ale was one steeped in history. The Rev. James,  from Brains Brewery in Cardiff is brewed to an original recipe dating back to 1885. The Rev. James Buckley was a business man with two conflicting roles – saving souls and satisfying thirsts.

At each meeting we try two new ales, in April 2010 - from an Isle of Man brewery established in 1850 and a Black Country brewery that is one of only 16 independent family brewers left in Britain and still 100% family owned. Add these to the popular Greene King IPA & Abbott Ale and the recently discovered Hardy & Hanson‟s Kimberley Bitter and members had a great choice for their evening.
