Three-Day Trip To Portsmouth and its Historic Dockyard – July 2018

All 11 attractions at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in one day? Not possible – so we have arranged a three-day trip so you can explore at your leisure, visit other attractions such as the Spinnaker Tower, soak up the sea air in Southsea, or even indulge in some retail therapy. The possibilities are endless!

Please book at Letchworth Tourist Office in person or by post. Telephone bookings cannot be accepted.

A non-returnable first payment of £60 per person, or £114 per couple is payable on booking.

Payment must be in cash or be cheque; the Tourist Office is unable to take card payments on our behalf. Cheques should be made payable to LALG.

Booking dealine: Friday 15 December. The balance is payable by Tuesday 2 May. LALG members will have priority until 1 October, after which time if there are still vacancies the trip will be open to non-members.

Dates - Thursday 5 to Saturday 7 July 2018

Accommodation. Portsmouth University – Rees Halls, Southsea – in a comfortable, modern single en-suite room. Some double-bedded rooms are also available. Breakfast is included and evening meals can be provided at extra cost.

Cost. Travel, Accommodation and All Attraction Dockyard ticket – £160 p.p. for a single room, £250 per couple for a double room (LALG members), £180 for a single room and £275 for a double (non-LALG members).

The details:

Travel. We expect the coach will leave Baldock (outside Templars’ Restaurant) at 8.30am on Thursday 5 July, and Letchworth opp Barclays Bank) at 9.00am. This will be confirmed clsoer to the time. We will leave from Rees Halls at 5.00pm on Saturday 7 July. Left Luggage facilities will be available.

Portsmouth – The All Attraction Portsmouth Dockyard ticket (valid for one year) includes the following exhibitions:- Mary Rose, Jutland 1916, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior 1860, HMS M33, National Museum of the Royal Navy, Action Stations, Harbour Tours, Boathouse 4, Women and the Royal Navy and the off-site exhibitions of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum and the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower. Entry to other attractions is extra.

The Spinnaker Tower – an imposing structure which stretches 170 metres above Gunwharf Quays, making it taller than Big Ben, the London Eye and Blackpool Tower. On a good day, visitors can see a 360 degree panorama stretching up to 23 miles.

Southsea – Decidedly more independent than Portsmouth, Southsea is a thriving cultural resort which has been a popular destination since the Victorian era. Its many attractions include:- Southsea Castle, from which Henry VIII watched his beloved Mary Rose sink to the bottom of the Solent, the D-Day Museum, home of the Overlord Embroidery, Blue Reef Aquarium.
