Leicester - Churches - Richard III

Thursday, 27 July 2017 - 8:15am

Kate Thompson is organising a trip to Leicester and is inviting us along.

LEICESTER in conjunction with VISITING CHURCHES Thursday 27 July
This visit will include a number of elements and you can choose which ones you want to take. The proposed programme includes the Richard III visitor centre, a tour of Leicester Cathedral (where Richard III is buried), a walking tour of places associated with Richard OR a visit to St Mary de Castro Church. St Mary's is regarded as one of the finest Norman churches in England, having been first built as a chapel within the precinct of the bailey of Leicester Castle by Robert Beaumont, 1st Earl of Leicester.
Leave Baldock at 8.15am (outside Templars Restaurant) and Letchworth Garden City at 8.30am (opposite Barclays Bank). On arrival in Leicester visit the award-winning Richard III visitor centre; after lunch there is a choice between the guided walk or the visit to St Mary de Castro, followed by a tour of the cathedral at 3.30pm. Leave Leicester at 5.00pm and should be back in Hertfordshire by 7.30pm .
The cost for the whole day is £30 (£33 non-LALG members). If you just want to use the coach it will be £14 (£16 non-LALG); Richard III visitor centre £7 (£8 non-LALG); cathedral tour £5; walking tour or St Mary’s £4.
There is a nice cafe at the visitor centre or lots of other places to eat in the city. Please note that if you want to take the walking tour you must be prepared to be on your feet for about 90 minutes.
