Greensand Ridge Oct 2013

Greensand Ridge Oct 2013

Having completed the Icknield Way, a number of the group walked the Greensand Ridge in Oct 2013.

This was achieved in four legs

Leg 1 - Leighton Buzzard to Woburn 8.5 miles

The leg starts along the towpath of  the Grand Union Canal at Leighton Buzzard and then climbs up to the Rushmere and Stockgrove Parks and we ended the first leg by walking along the wide tree-lined approach to Woburn Abbey.

Leg 2 - Woburn to Ampthill 10 miles

The second leg started by walking through the Deer Park and on through Eversholt and Ridgemont to Ampthill Park and it's St Katherine's Cross and War Memorial and then on to the centre of Ampthill.

Leg 3 - Ampthill to Old Warden 10 miles

From Ampthill we passed Houghton House and on through Maulden, Clophill and Haynes crossing the Southill Estate to Old Warden Tunnel with stunning views over Cardington and Bedford.

Leg 4 - Old Warden to Gamlingay 11.5 miles

The last leg took us across the Kingfisher Way and the River Ivel to Sandy skirting round the edge of the RSPB headquarters, nearly reaching Tempsford Airfield before climbing the hill up to Everton and on to Gamlingay on the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border
