New Groups

Get going with the Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group

Do you have an idea for a leisure activity?   Perhaps you would like to share your hobby or interest.  Or pool know-how , or practise a skill or learn (or teach) a new one. Or perhaps you have an idea for something completely different.    Although the  3000 plus Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group members already have access to more than 50 leisure activities each month LALG is  always interested in adding new groups..

Since the 1980s William Armitage and the David’s Bookshop, Letchworth, staff have been championing the formation of autonomous groups, in and around Letchworth, linked to the main organisation of the LALG by a monthly newsletter. Only a few of the ideas supported by LALG have failed to mature into viable groups.   You will be encouraged and supported and advised to keep it simple, you don’t need a committee unless you want one – you do need a driving force, usually the person who had the idea for your group,  and that person would  normally be the group contact,  you don’t need to keep a set of books  but a record of income and expenditure is advisable.

LALG set few criteria, membership is a must, but after that if your idea is  decent, honest, legal and interesting LALG could help you set up a special interest group by providing guidance based on their many years experience of providing help and support to other start-ups. LALG can help you find a suitable venue, guide you regarding the organisation and structure of your group and advertise your group in the LALG Newsletter.

Through the LALG newsletter,  which is currently delivered  to 1,400 households, you will  reach  people who, like you,  have a special interest or want to learn a new skill or who just enjoy going places and meeting people.   In any one week members could have the choice of participating in Wine Discovery,  Gardening, Singing for Pleasure, Theatre Excursion, Meditation, Bridge, Opera  or a Pudding Club. In a month there is much, much more.

And the only thing it will cost you is time and effort… oh  and of course membership of the LALG!  But at just £8 per household and discounts from many local business who support LALG this is by any measure a bargain.  You will  join a friendly band of  enthusiastic,  unpaid volunteers who independent of any governmental financial support have grown the LALG into what it is today, a friendly yet dynamic and busy umbrella organisation.   LALG is a tribute to what determined like-minded people can achieve and it is there to be enjoyed.  You can find out more about LALG by obtaining a copy of the current newsletter, at David’s Bookshop, Eastcheap,  Letchworth Garden City.

LALG is a not for profit organization.
